I started a home baking business in November of 2020 and in just 4 months I was able to make 5k a month consistently! Before starting my business I thought I would need to go to pastry school and create my own recipes to someday be able to sell desserts. Boy was I wrong! Here are the recipes that made me the most money and continue to do so!!
For the most part, when selling cakes people will request the same thing over and over again, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, red velvet maybe carrot or lemon, and on the very rarest of occasions will they ask what is your specialty! And when that happens we throw a party, do a dance and pull out all the creative baking masterpieces we have!
With every recipe, I use I always end up mixing some stuff up as I go! Sam's recipe calls for only egg whites and clear vanilla because it is a white cake recipe. I got tired of throwing out egg yolks so I throw them in with the butter and I use regular vanilla. Comes out great every time. This recipe is a must-have because you can use it for other flavors as well. I have used this recipe to create marble, strawberry, and coffee cake as well.
One of my favorites! There aren't make changes I make to this recipe except for extra espresso powder and vanilla. I also have no idea how much 2 oz of chopped chocolate is but I put one cup of chocolate chips and that works perfectly. I love modifying this recipe for Christmas time by making it a Mexican Hot Chocolate cake, adding cinnamon, nutmeg, and cayenne powder. I think about this recipe whenever I see a chili twist on baking shows haha! Look how moist that cake is! And that is before I knew about freezing cakes!
This is one of the few recipes that I don't mess with!!
Before making cakes I would rarely eat cake. And when I did I would take the frosting off! That's because most cakes I had eaten at that point had American buttercream. During cake tasting everyone comments on how light and not overpoweringly sweet the buttercream is! And it is true!! It makes a huge difference in the quality of the cake!
This is a favorite around my family and every customer who has ever had them! So good!!! I actually hated tres leches before making this! Now I absolutely love it (well this recipe only)!! To make things easier I use a medicine syringe to fill the cupcakes and make sure they are getting an even amount of milk.
It does not take a pastry degree to start your own home baking business. It does not take your own specialty recipes to start your business.
