Starting a home baking business is an exciting journey! Whether you’re selling cakes, cookies, or artisan bread, making it easy for customers to reach you is key to success. Clear and professional contact information builds trust and ensures smooth communication. Here’s what you need:
1. Phone Number
Having a dedicated phone number for your business keeps personal and professional calls separate.
Consider:
A business phone, I know a second phone isn’t very practical. But it could be helpful. If you have an old phone lying around, add a prepaid plan on it. *Remember that this is a tax write off. So girl math it's free!
A Google Voice number for added privacy. This is what I use. It makes it easy to get calls straight to my phone without giving out my personal number. The downside is that when I get a phone call, I can not tell if someone is calling my personal number or my business number. But it is free so… I’ll take it.
A voicemail with a professional greeting. Make sure to create a voicemail with directions on exactly what information you would like them to leave.
For example:
What kind of dessert are you interested in?
How many servings do you need?
What date do you need it?
Any design details they have in mind
This way you can cut back on the back and forth and have more to go off of when you give them a call back. I also let them know that they can text that number as well. With 4 kids in the house and a mixer running it's a lot easier to text back when possible.
2. Email Address
A business email gives your baking brand credibility. You can use either a free email like yourbakery@gmail.com or use a paid email through Google that has your domain at the end like order@yourbakery.com. In my opinion, the free one is just fine. Make sure to use this for all of your accounts regarding your business to keep everything organized.
Yes, an email is important for more than just creating logins for your accounts. I send invoices connected to my business login as well as communicate with wedding planners through email. You want to make sure you are handing out a professional email for all of these situations.
Social Media Handles
Most home bakers find customers through social media. (except for me, read this to see where I love to get my orders) Ensure your handles are consistent across platforms like:
Instagram
Facebook
TikTok
Pinterest
You might not plan on using all of these right now, but get them all so that if you do decide to use them later, your handle is not taken.
Website or Online Ordering Platform
Having a website is always a great way for anyone to find you. If someone recommends you to a friend, that friend can always just search your business name and find you easily. I dive deeper into the importance and benefits of having your own business website here.
Business cards? Do you need them?
I have only been asked for a business card a handful of times. But each time I was I wish I had them. So I decided to create a small batch of cards. You can easily create your design on Canva and print them directly through Canva as well!
I hope this helped to give you clear directions on what contact info you should set up for your own home baking business. If you have any questions on how to grow your business, make sure to leave a comment! I would love to help you, God bless!
